Overview
The Integrated Forest Resource Information System (IFRISĀ©) allows VDOF staff, who often do not have GIS experience, to go online and edit geodatabases that store geometry of forest management activity areas and existing forest stand type/condition attribution. Users navigate to the property of focus, and using 2007 sub-meter resolution true-color aerial photography as a guide, map (heads-up digitize) the forest management work that is being or will be performed. The information enables the agency to track employee accomplishments toward individual, strategic, and grants-matching goals.
The solution is built on ArcGIS Server using the ESRI Javascript API. A field component built on ArcGIS Mobile, SQL Server Compact, and the MS Sync Framework is used by 200 VDOF employees to seamlessly synchronize field GPS data (including accomplishments, time, water quality concerns, forest health observations, and wildfire incidents) into the centrally managed IFRIS application.
